BDHS Gift to Lady Katherine Leveson Church of England School
Posted by Judy Lambourne on 29 December 2023
The Committee learned that a garden was being created in the infants’ playground at Lady Katherine Leveson Church of England Primary School. The aim of this garden is to enable pupils to learn more about growing plants, as well as having a dedicated area for the school’s gardening club to operate from.
The school’s vision, ‘to learn, love, and live with joy’ could have been written for keen gardeners. Learning never ceases even for the most experienced of us. We love being in our gardens and allotments, and we derive joy from being outside in the natural world, which is beneficial for both body and soul. Encouraging a new generation of young gardeners is very like nurturing young seedlings to flourish into strong plants. We hope that our donation of £100, which will be used towards purchasing garden tools suitable for use by the children, helps nurture their love and knowledge of gardening.
On Friday 24th November 2023, four BDHS Committee members visited Lady Katherine Leveson Church of England School to present a cheque to Headteacher, Neil Kitching. He was thrilled to receive the Society’s donation.
Mr Kitching gave members Marion Keeley, Ann Fenton, Maggie Smith, Doug Timmis, and Temple Balsall Vicar, Rev. Debbie Collins, a tour of the new garden, which should be completed in time for the new gardening season. We were then joined by pupils for the handing over of the cheque and photographs.
We will also be working with the Lady K team as part of the Art competition in our Annual Show and we look forward to seeing the pupils’ artwork on the theme of “The Four Seasons” at our Annual Show next July
